Access to HighWire-hosted journal COUNTER reports through the Standardized Usage Statistics Harvesting Initiative (SUSHI) protocol

HighWire Press now provides access to COUNTER 4 reports through the Standardized Usage Statistics Harvesting Initiative (SUSHI) protocol, version 1.6. Supported reports include COUNTER Journal reports JR1, JR1A, JR1GOA, JR2, JR3, JR4, JR5, and CR1. Additional information about the SUSHI protocol can be found at the NISO website. Additional information about COUNTER can be found at the COUNTER website.

Per the COUNTER R4 code of practice, if the server takes more than a 120 seconds to return a completed usage report, the server will respond with a "Server Busy" exception. The server will continue to process the usage report request in the background. Once the report is completed, the report will be delivered on subsequent requests.

To harvest COUNTER usage statistics via the SUSHI protocol, you will need to have an account on the HighWire Portal (http://portal.highwire.org. To register for an account if you don't have one, go to http://portal.highwire.org/institutions/ and follow the instructions to create an account.

To be able to harvest reports from HighWire-hosted publications, you'll need to configure your SUSHI client as follows:

  • Requestor ID: Any identifying information is acceptable.
  • Customer ID: Set to the primary e-mail address associated with your HighWire Portal account, followed by "|", and then your portal password. For example, "someuser@myorganization.org|sla2rty3".

All other fields should be filled in as defined by the SUSHI schema ReportRequest field. Clients are authenticated via their HighWire Portal account username/password.
